Questions for Message #2 – THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (Matthew 5:3)
Question #1 – We looked at some of the reasons Christians are blessed. Summarize the biblical teachings under the following headings: faith, forgiveness, Word, Obedience and Hope. Spend a couple of minutes and answer the simple question of “why!” Why am I blessed in trusting Him? Go along each one asking the same thing. Summarize your answers under the same headings. What have you found?
FAITH: Blessed are the those who take refuge in Him and don’t rely on their own understanding. Blessed are those who trust in God and not themselves. Blessed are those who fear the Lord. Blessed are those who seek Him with their whole hearts. Blessed are those who wait on the Lord. Blessed are those who see and hear Him. Blessed are those who do not see yet believe.
FORGIVENESS: Blessed are those whose sins are forgiven. Blessed are those whose robes are washed in the blood of the Lamb.
WORD: Blessed are those who delight in His Law and who meditate on it day and night. Blessed are those who walk in the Law of God.
OBEDIENCE: Blessed are those who feed the poor and care for the needy. It is more blessed to give than receive. Blessed are those whose ways are blameless. Blessed are those who faithfully obey Him.
HOPE: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb.
Question #2 – I say “…blessedness consists in the perfect vision and enjoyment of God.” And I also quote the first question in the Westminster Confession of Faith, “What is the chief end of man?” The answer is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever! What do you think I mean by saying that the simple word “fellowship” with God is the greatest blessing?
Question #3 – I explain the primary difference between poverty and poor in spirit. Discuss it, and come up with a definition of both.
Question #4 – I intimate that 1 Peter 1:8-9 is completely natural with the idea of spiritually destitution. How is that possible?
